California Hawks 0
v 4 Curley Park Broncos
The Broncos arrived at California Hawks with
the pitch looking in magnificent condition, by far the best
pitch we had played on all season both home and away.
With plenty of space available the Broncos began passing the
ball about well with Sam G and Sam L working well down both
flanks. With the Hawks defending quite deep the Broncos began
asserting some early pressure and it was only for a couple
of good saves by the Hawks keeper which kept the scores level.
Andrew was playing his normal commanding role in midfield
and dropping deep whenever necessary to cover Alex or Richard
when they pushed forward. The break through came on 15 mins
when a fine run down the left by Sam G resulted in a perfectly
pulled back cross to the onrushing skipper for the day Sam
L who made no mistake in slotting home (1-0). Shortly after,
Keegan scored the second having received the ball just outside
the penalty area, beat a couple of players and squeezed the
ball underneath the keeper from close range (2-0). The Hawks
were far from beaten and were breaking in numbers whenever
possible which called for some stern defending and Jake to
be on his toes. Josh replaced Keegan just before half time
and was immediately involved in a goal mouth scramble which
the Hawks were glad to clear.
The Broncos started the second half positively with Ciaron
and James settling straight into the game. Alex was being
a constant threat by winning possession and pushing forward
down the right whenever possible. On 30 mins this was rewarded
when Alex passed to Sam L who threaded a beautiful ball onto
Josh whose shot from the edge of the box nestled into the
bottom left hand corner (3-0). Andrew, Josh and Ciaron all
went close midway through the second half with shots going
just wide or over the bar. Keegan was chomping at the bit
to get back on and when reintroduced immediately made an impact
with his first touch of the ball by scoring his second of
the game (4-0). Although Jake wasn’t that busy in the
second half thanks to some solid challenges and good clearances
by James, when called upon his handling and distribution was
excellent.
The full time whistled ended a good all round performance
by the Broncos in which they played some attractive football
and played as a team throughout.
A good deal of credit also goes to the Hawks who played the
game in good spirit and never gave up until the final whistle.
Well done lads !
