Ascot Aces 0 v 5 Curley Park Broncos

With the Broncos traveling to Ascot with only a bare 7 players it was a welcoming site to see Sam Levey unexpectedly appear having only arrived back from Australia at 5.00am that morning.

The game started well for the Broncos with them battling well for every ball and enjoying a good deal of possession. Following some good passing moves the chances began to fall, Josh, Keegan and Ciaron had shots early on which were either well saved or went just wide. With 13 mins gone the deadlock was broken when Andrew pushed forward and picked up the ball on the edge of the box, he shrugged off a challenge and managed to slot neatly past the keeper (1-0). A couple of minutes later saw some solid defending by Alex lead to our second as the Broncos counter-attacked down the right with Josh and Keegan combining well and crossing to Ciaron on the left who cut inside his man and scored our second (2-0).

Ascot were still pushing forward and it took some stern defending by Alex and Richard, some good handling by Jake and some good covering by our midfielders to keep them at bay. Jake was nearly the creator of a third with a good kick out wide to Josh who again linked with Keegan to cross for Ciaron who this time slipped on the heavy surface when about to shoot. On 20 mins Andrew did make it three with a goal similar to his first when he picked up a clearance on the edge of the box and shot through the crowded penalty area to score his second of the match (3-0).With the heavy ground taking its toll on the players fitness the half time whistle was a welcoming sound.
Sam replaced Josh at half time and settled straight back into the side having not played for over a month. With Ascot still showing strong determination the Broncos didn’t have it all their own way in the second half. The Aces were pushing men forward and the Broncos defense were having to hold firm. This was further put to the test when Alex picked up an injury and had to be substituted. With Andrew dropping into defense Josh returned in midfield and the Broncos continued to pass the ball about well. Midway through the second half Keegan was rewarded for his chasing and closing down through out the match when Ciaron picked up the ball just inside the Ascot half and dribbled forward and passed to Josh just outside the box who neatly split the two Ascot defenders to find Keegan who turned and beat the keeper to score our fourth (4-0). With time ticking on the heavy ground and hard work were really taking their toll but with 5 mins to go a shot from Ciaron was well saved by the Aces keeper which was followed up by who else but Sam to score our fifth.

The full time whistle blew on what was an excellent all round team performance and with the Coaches handing over the difficult decision of ‘Player of the Week’ to the parents this week awaited their decision.

Well done lads !
