Broncos match report -
Saturday 5th November 2005
CPR Broncos 0 vs Reeves
Rangers 2
Div 3 Cup Round 2
The Broncos cup run came to an end on Saturday with a 2-0
defeat to Reeves Rangers.
The game started at a lively pace and on 3 mins a Reeves forward
looked like opening the scoring only for Jake to make a terrific
one on one save. This seemed to wake the Broncos up and they
started settling into the game. As a fairly even first half
unfolded the possession was end to end. Richard and Alex where
being kept busy at the back with them both making important
tackles whilst Keegan was working hard up front. The Broncos
first real attack down the right resulted in our first corner
of the game. Alex floated a lovely ball in which eluded the
keeper but unfortunately nobody was there to add the finishing
touch. With Reeves breaking forward again a good cross from
the right was too far in front of the incoming forward and
Jake saw out for a goal kick.
Our midfield trio of Sam G, Andrew and Sam L were all working
well in midfield with some fine tackling and passing to each
other. It was also pleasing to see them all tracking back
when required when we managed to lose possession.
With the first half nearly up Reeves knocked a long ball down
the right wing which to be honest didn’t look to threatening
until their midfielder chased and delivered an inch perfect
cross to their forward who was waiting unmarked on the goal
line to head home.
Although one down everyone was confident at half time that
we could turn things around.
The second half started with the Broncos enjoying plenty of
possession. Josh was managing to find plenty of space on the
right due to Keegan giving the Reeves defenders more to think
about. A couple of half chances went begging with a shot from
Andrew getting blocked and a through ball from Ciaron being
intercepted. Reeves were looking dangerous coming forward
although solid defending meant any shots were from distance
which didn’t really trouble Jake.
However with 10 mins to go a Broncos goal kick went straight
to an opposing player in the middle of the pitch who instantly
hit an unstoppable shot that dropped menacingly into the net.
With time running out the Broncos kept pushing forward, Ciaron
won the ball out on the left and played a lovely ball into
Josh who was now playing up front. He rounded the keeper beautifully
only to see his shot stop on the line giving their keeper
time to react and smother.
The full time whistle ended an evenly contested match which
was really won by two pieces of individual skill by a Reeves
player who made one and scored the other.
Although our performance overall was quite satisfying, all
that was left to do was reflect on what might had been had
we not conceded possession with so many foul throws.
Guess what we’ll being practicing at training this week
!!!
A good performance lads !
