CPR Chiefs 3 vs CPR
Broncos 4
It was a bitter cold morning down at Connaught
for the local derby between the Broncos and the Chiefs that
ended up being a thrilling encounter.
The Broncos started the stronger and pinned
the Chiefs back in their own half with plenty of territorial
possession. A few wasted corners and woeful shots gave the
Chiefs the chance to clear their lines but a battling midfield
of Sam G, Andrew and Josh were winning back possession and
causing more threats to the Chiefs goal. Sam G was enjoying
plenty of space on the left hand side of the pitch and was
a constant threat every time he got the ball and ran at the
Chiefs defense. The break through came midway through the
first half when Keegan was first to react to a loose ball
in the penalty box and turned to hit a lovely shot from just
inside the box into the bottom right hand corner (1-0).
This seemed to rally the Chiefs and they started
to push forward more themselves. A couple of corners in quick
succession put pressure on the Broncos defense of which only
a good save from Jake denied the equalizer. The equalizer
was not far away however when the Broncos failed to clear
another corner and the ball was knocked in at the far post
(1-1). The Broncos responded immediately and from the kick
off moved the ball neatly up field which resulted in a Sam
G shot from the edge of the box finding its way into the net
(2-1). Richard and Alex continued to tidy up any threats at
the other end and the whistle blew for half time.
Ciaron was introduced at half time on the right
hand side of midfield and had an immediate impact on the game,
having won possession just inside the Broncos half he ran
forward and played a great ball up to Keegan who had pulled
out wide and ran on into the penalty box to score the Broncos
third (3-1). The Chiefs were in no mood to roll over and continued
to battle for every ball and look dangerous on the break themselves.
This was rewarded when a ball from midfield was knocked past
the Broncos defense and met with a sweet strike from just
inside the box that nestled into the bottom corner of the
net (3-2). With the game beginning to get stretched the Broncos
continued to push forward and it was only the final ball that
was missing on a couple of occasions to put Keegan through
on goal. James was now part of midfield trio battling away
for everything and made a couple of very important tackles
to thwart the Chiefs attack and win back possession. With
Ciaron now switched to the left he pushed forward and received
a fine ball from midfield which he finished well to restore
the two goal deficit (4-2). With Richard not being 100% fit
at the back some great covering was required by Alex to keep
the Chiefs at bay, however, they were not finished yet and
with only a minute left on the clock they still pushed men
forward and managed to breach the Broncos defense again to
score a third (4-3).
With the full time whistle blowing credit has
to go out to all involved for what was a thoroughly enjoyable
game.
Well done lads !
